Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
