It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
